The YWCA’s Tribute to Women of Influence (TWIN) event honors women who have made significant contributions to their fields, and recognizes those organizations that support such achievements. 2012 marks the 21th anniversary of TWIN. Leading up to this year’s September 20th event at Pack Place & Diana Wortham Theatre, we will highlight each of our 20 incredible TWIN Honorees. If you would like more information about the TWIN event, or to reserve a ticket, please visit www.ywcaofasheville.org.
Since her son’s death in 2008, Leslie Boyd’s goal has been simple – to educate the public and our government officials about the disastrous state of our country’s current health care system and the toll it takes on individuals and families. Leslie’s son, Mike, did not have health insurance and was unable to afford the medical care needed to prevent and treat his illness. In 2008, Leslie started the non-profit Life o’ Mike, which advocates for health care reform, provides peer support for people with serious medical issues or disabilities, and tells the stories of real Americans left behind by the health care system. Leslie works tirelessly to educate people about the facts and myths of health care reform, to be a voice for the voiceless, and to bring people together in hopes of reaching a workable solution that will make health care available to all.
