After-School Celebrates Black History Month

3 Mar

Last Friday, the YWCA After-School Program celebrated Black History Month with a dinner and informative, entertaining presentations by the children. Each After-School age group had chosen people, songs, food, dances to study for the month, and they shared what they learned to an enthusiastic audience.

kids-programGroup 1 (the youngest group) worked on basics, learning and studying the alphabet, singing a song and doing a portrayal of President Obama. Group 2 studied African Americans who were first in inventions, and they did a skit and song. Group 3 studied African Americans who had an impact on society and did individual monologues and a dance. Group 4 studied African American athletes who changed the sports world. They presented what they had learned in the form of a talk show. Group 5 covered the past, present, and future of Black History in the form of skits.

It was truly an inspiring event.
