Employees of the Quarter

7 Apr

The YWCA “Employees of the Quarter” for the first quarter of 2009 were announced recently by Tami Ruckman, YWCA Development Director. Here is what Tami had to say about each of these fine members of the YWCA team:

kenya-webster

Kenya Webster

Kenya Webster, SOS Director
Even though Kenya spends a lot of her time off-site with the SOS program, her guidance and influence on the staff of both the SOS and the Future Vision programs is noticed.  She takes the time to meet with her staff on a daily basis, tackling issues as they come up, and being proactive by engaging other staff members in helping her group with program activities and team building.  What a joy it was to attend the SOS holiday party! It was inspiring to see the strides Kenya and her staff are making with the students and families of the SOS program. I am sure that her second summer of Spirit Camp is going to be phenomenal! She embodies the spirit of the YWCA mission by opening her heart to ALL her students and encouraging her staff and Americorps volunteers to do the same. She believes that every young person deserves opportunities to grow and change.

Wanda Harris

Wanda Harris, Child Care Director
Ms. Wanda is a kind, big-hearted person. She treats all parents as if they are all equally special and important. She takes the time out to listen to concerns and then she promptly addresses them and makes sure that the problem is solved. She reassures EVERY parent that their child is safely in the care of people who love and cares for them and their individual needs.  She goes out of her way to speak and say a kind work to everyone that crosses her path, she makes anyone feel proud to be a part of the YWCA and she truly stands by our theme of eliminating racism and empowering women. Ms. Wanda is truly a woman of genuine love and kindness.

Tom Sliker, Front Desk
Tom stands to greet people, smiles and makes members feel welcome. He dresses professionally. He is here before time to open, opens on time and even come out in the snow storms to make sure we are open. He makes lists for everyone to follow up on.  He takes on duties that he is not asked to do. He is a self-starter and follow-through-er, and a true assest to the YWCA of Asheville.

Congratulations to these employees!
