Bon Voyage, Jean!

24 May

Amidst smiles and a few tears, YWCA staff, friends and fans and family of Jean Coile celebrated her retirement yesterday. The tiki-party themed event was very appropriate for a woman who has spent much of her life in the water. As YWCA Aquatics Director, Jean taught children and adults to swim at the YWCA for the past 32 years. The Asheville Citizen-Times ran a wonderful article about Jean – click here to read it. She will be very missed and we wish her well in this next phase of her life.

Thankfully, Jean has left a strong Aquatics program that will continue to serve the Asheville community. The YWCA has also established the “Teach the Children to Swim Fund” in her honor to provide scholarships for families that cannot afford swim lessons. To contribute to this fund, call Development Director Tami Ruckman at 254-7206 x 206 or click here to donate online (indicate that you are donating to the Fund in the “Message” section). What better way to honor Jean than to give the gift of swimming?
