Celebration of Community

4 May

One of the many Stand Against Racism events was the YWCA’s Celebration of Community. This joyful gathering brought together children and families from around Asheville. Kids enjoyed dancing to music played by DJ Twan, eating Hop Ice Cream, having their faces painted and balloon art. There were performances from the YW Kids Choir, a dance by children from the Reid Center, and drumming by the Shiloh Youth Drummers. YW staffer Rachel Blattner led the group in Latin dancing. Everyone recited the Stand Against Racism pledge, and then signed a giant sign with the pledge on it which will be displayed at the YWCA.

Stand Against Racism Youth Pledge: No Room for Hate

I pledge to treat everyone with kindness and respect.
I will treat others the way I would like to be treated.

And by showing friendship everywhere,
I will help make the world a better place.
