Green Opportunities Service Project

26 Jul

Next time you swing down to the River Arts District, check out the intersection by Clingman Café.  The YWCA FutureVision summer camps worked with Green Opportunities to beautify garden beds and street sides. Eric from Green Opportunities met us by the train tracks to give us a rundown about what their mission is and what we would be doing for the day. We spent the first hour and a half weeding garden beds, pruning shrubberies and mulching. Then we moved on to picking up trash up and down the streets.  It’s pretty cool when people drive by and call out “thank you!” to the kids for giving back. It’s always helpful when you can turn anything into a competition. We decided to split into groups and whoever got the most trash got to push the others into the pool! Talk about motivation!
