The YWCA’s Tribute to Women of Influence (TWIN) event honors women who have made significant contributions to their fields, and recognizes those organizations that support such achievements. 2011 marks the 20th anniversary of TWIN. Leading up to this year’s September 15th event, we will highlight each of our 25 incredible TWIN Honorees. If you would like more information about the TWIN event, or would like to reserve a ticket, please visitwww.ywcaofasheville.org.
On December 26, 2008, Keldwyn, who was uninsured, was diagnosed with a rare heart tumor and on January 6, had open heart surgery. Project Access, Buncombe County Medical Society’s (BCMS) volunteer physician network, provided all of her care for free. Had Keldwyn not been enrolled in Project Access, her medical bills including after care, would have been in the neighborhood of $200,000. Without this treatment, she would not be alive today. In spite of ongoing health issues, she is now hard at work transforming the lives of others by giving back to a program that saved her life. Keldwyn joined the BCMS Foundation’s Development Council and has actively participated in the Council for over a year helping to raise public awareness about Project Access and raise funds for this charitable program.
