Buy a theatre ticket at NC Stage and support the YWCA!

17 May
May 21st through 23rd, North Carolina Stage Company is donating a portion of every ticket sold to the YWCA of Asheville.  No matter which performance you choose, 10% of your purchase will support the programs of the YWCA.
NC Stage is Asheville’s professional theatre, and is currently running the award-winning comedy “In the Next Room, or The Vibrator Play.”  This stylish comedy about marriage, medicine, and the dawn of the age of electricity is on stage through Sunday June 10th.  Tickets are $17 and up, based on performance.
“In the Next Room” was inspired by actual medical practice in the 1880s. Doctors harnessed the brand-new power of electricity to design a rudimentary vibrator, and they used it to treat women’s “hysteria.” This play is a thoughtful (and very funny) exploration of women’s relationships with men, other women, and to their own bodies.
Buy your ticket between Monday May 21st at 10am and Wednesday May 23rd at noon, and support the YW!
More about “In the Next Room”
Catherine Givings has a problem. Her husband, a respected doctor, has invented a revolutionary new electric vibrating machine used to treat “hysteria” in drooping, enervated women and enjoys great success. The machine is kept in the “next room,” right off the parlor of his home, but a universe away from his own private life – his wife and newborn daughter. Sarah Ruhl’s comedy unfolds as Catherine – curious, passionate, and lonely – tries to find out what happens in the next room, and to connect, without plugs, to her reserved, scientific husband.
Runs through June 10th. Wednesdays through Saturdays at 7:30pm as well as Saturdays and Sundays at 2pm. There is no show Friday May 25th, but an added performance Tuesday May 22nd at 7:30pm – Tuesday tickets are just $10!
