Jennifer Mayer

Jennifer Mayer’s inspiring story starts out as one of severe disadvantage – growing up on welfare, in public housing, and with parents battling addictions. At 14 years old, Jennifer dropped out of school, left home, and began supporting herself by waiting tables. Eventually she completed her GED then went on to earn a BA in psychology from UNC-Asheville in 2004. That year Jennifer began working at Charlotte Street Computers, and in 2007 became the company’s CEO.

Under Jennifer’s leadership, Charlotte Street Computers has risen to the top of its industry, receiving numerous awards for superior service, growth, and commitment to the community. Jennifer is dedicated to helping those in need, and has made community involvement part of Charlotte Street Computers’ business model. In 2007, she started Power On Community, a foundation through which over 1,000 refurbished computers have been donated to underprivileged members of the community. Charlotte Street Computers also sponsors numerous arts organizations and events in the Asheville area. Jennifer has a special interest in helping children and families living in Asheville’s housing projects, and is currently working on a project to install a playground in the Klondyke neighborhood.
