Domestic Violence Vigil on Wednesday, October 17

1 Oct

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Join us in honoring the victims and survivors of abuse.

Helpmate, in partnership with the YWCA’s MotherLove and New Choices programs, will be holding a Domestic Violence Vigil at the YWCA of Asheville, 185 S. French Broad Ave, on Wednesday, October 17, at 6:00 pm. This event coincides with the national YWCA Week Without Violence.

N.C. ranks fourth in the nation in homicides committed by men against women. There are over 66,000 cases of domestic violence in N.C. each year.

Helpmate’s Clothesline Project, featuring shirts decorated by survivors of violence, will be on exhibit in YWCA lobby the week of October 15.

Mayor Terry Bellamy will be present at the Vigil to announce the City of Asheville’s Proclamation to end Domestic Violence.

There will be artwork on display made by Helpmate shelter residents.

Attendees will hear stories of survival.

Refreshments will be provided by Fig.
