Learning About Emotional Eating

18 Mar

Approximately 40 participants in the YWCA Diabetes Wellness and Prevention (DWP) program and their families were in attendance at March’s monthly dinner lecture. Jen Vaughn, a registered dietitian from Mission Health Systems, was the evening’s guest speaker. The topic was “Emotional Eating: What is it, Why We Do It, and How to Overcome It.” Everyone enjoyed the presentation and left with a few ideas for what to do if they found themselves mindlessly eating. For example: take a walk or drink a glass of water or enjoy a nice cup of tea.

DWP helps people lower their blood sugar levels, lose weight, improve flexibility, increase energy, and boost self-confidence. By working out together and supporting each other, participants create an environment of acceptance and friendship – and make big changes in their lives. For more information about DWP, contact Director of Preventive Health Susan Kettren and 254-7206 x 212 or email susan.kettren@ywcaofasheville.org.
